Job Description

Overview California Institute of Applied Technology (CIAT) is growing and seeks educators passionate about mentoring others. The adjunct instructor will offer practical training to prepare students for professional success in competitive technology fields, both in-person and online. Schedule Live classes are scheduled twice per week, on Monday and Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm (Pacific Time). This flexible schedule works well even if you already have a daytime job. Work from Home (WFH) Remote work must be performed while residing in California, New Mexico, Florida, or Massachusetts. CIAT Location San Diego, CA and Albuquerque, NM Reports To Dean of Education (DOE) Status Non‑Exempt Employment Type Variable‑Hour (Part‑Time) Teaching Responsibilities Teach synchronous online courses via Microsoft Teams on Monday and Tuesday each week. Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning and engagement. Modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter. Maintain current certifications in subjects taught. Mastery of Subject Matter Demonstrate thorough, accurate knowledge of your field or discipline. Connect subject matter with related fields. Stay current through professional development, professional organization involvement, and attendance at meetings, conferences, or workshops. Adhering to College Policies and Procedures Keep the student database fully updated with attendance and grade records. Maintain accreditation compliance for instructional quality, scheduled class hours, and CIAT policies. Submit required documentation—sign‑in attendance, pre‑post exams, lab sheets, student snapshots, and accreditation/state required documents. Communicate textbook, handout, supply, equipment, and exam voucher needs to management with sufficient notice. Promote collaboration with staff and participate in new projects or ideas. Adhere to CIAT business casual attire: neat, clean, without rips or holes (polos allowed; T‑shirts, caps, hooded sweaters, shorts not permitted). Requirements Provide official transcripts of a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; certification in the subject taught. CompTIA Tech+ certification preferred. At least three years’ experience in the field OR two years of teaching experience. Synchronous online teaching experience preferred. Advanced subject‑matter expertise with a commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current. Effective presentation, communication, and technology skills. Good working knowledge of MS Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and learning technologies such as Canvas. Work independently with minimal supervision, high dependability. Ability to multitask and solve problems rapidly and effectively. Collaborative attitude with colleagues, academic departments, and administration to support student success. Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment respecting diversity. Knowledge of current trends, best practices, and didactic approaches in higher education. Demo ability to deliver engaging lesson plans meeting diverse student needs. Strong verbal and written communication skills. High ethical standards, professional demeanor. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, with possible weekend and evening hours.
