DESCRIPTION

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 57 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. RESPONSIBILITIES

Under supervision, perform tasks and assays to support research on tumor inflammation, including animal colony management, genotyping, breeding, weaning, and in vivo animal experiments that assess the role of immune cells in cancer. Perform molecular, biochemical, and cell biological techniques such as tumor cell culture, DNA and RNA isolation, immunoblotting, quantitative RT‑PCR, flow cytometry, gene expression assays, immunohistochemistry, fluorescent microscopy, ELISA, and SDS PAGE. Maintain accurate records of all experiments, including cell culture and propagation of tumor cell lines, inventory of frozen cell stocks, and routine mycoplasma testing. Serve as the point of contact with the UC San Diego Animal Care Program, submitting protocols for review, ensuring approved protocols and record‑keeping, training lab members on ACP rules, and managing a mouse colony of approximately 100 cages. Act as the Area Safety Coordinator for the laboratory, ensuring EH&S compliance, preparing biosafety protocols, and training personnel in safety protocols. Prepare media and reagents, maintain laboratory organization and supplies, purchase laboratory supplies, and support other critical laboratory functions. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of cell biology and molecular biology and/or a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related area, and/or equivalent education and experience. Experience working with mice for procedures, including anesthesia, tumor cell administration, reagent preparation, animal models of tumors, tumor harvesting, and compliance with IACUC regulations. Experience performing routine cell culture techniques and following basic research protocols closely. Experience extracting DNA and RNA from specimens and performing PCR and qPCR reactions. Experience preparing chemical solutions, performing gel electrophoresis, and accurately calculating molarity. Knowledge of laboratory equipment such as sterile techniques, buffer preparation, centrifuges, pH meters, and electrophoresis equipment. Experience in experimental protocols and recommending modifications. Experience with animal care protocols, laboratory safety coordination, and compliance training. Ability to integrate information from scientific journals and share with laboratory members. Ability to adhere to UCSD safety and environmental guidelines. Proficiency in data management, analysis, interpretation, and scientific writing. Accurate record keeping of experimental details and results. Organizational skills for ordering and maintaining lab equipment and supplies. Computer skills for basic word processing, data entry, PubMed and database searching (e.g., BLAST). Strong verbal and written communication skills with diplomatic and discreet interaction. Enthusiasm for learning and genuine interest in scientific research. Ability to work independently and cooperatively.

PAY INFORMATION

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,208 - $104,901 (prorated if appointment If employed by the University of California, you will be required to comply with our Policy on Vaccination Programs, which may be amended or revised from time to time. Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements. If applicable, life‑support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment; online‑only certification is not acceptable.
