Overview We are seeking a full-time Industrial Designer 1 - Products at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for working with higher level designers in the conceptualization and development of new products. Essential Functions Works with experienced designers, engineers, and product managers in the conceptualization and development of new products through sketching, 3D modeling, rendering, or physical mock‑ups. Utilizes good free‑hand sketch skill to communicate design concepts and details. Develops SolidWorks skills to communicate design concepts, details, and physical model preparations and learns how to break parts for prototyping. Coordinates with suppliers to ensure component parts orders are completed accurately and delivered on time (e.g., Chromatech dry transfer decals). Collaborates with and communicates to the segment team in engineering and product management to produce superior solutions as a common goal. Stays abreast with new prototyping, presentation, or computer graphics techniques, software, design trends, and competitors’ designs for the appropriate segment. Generates fresh ideas and design concepts in free‑hand sketches and computer‑generated images. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent academics (cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0 as a general rule). Must demonstrate knowledge, education, experience and/or training necessary to use tools such as SolidWorks, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Sketchbook Pro.
