Operating a 15-acre facility in Louisa, Virginia, we produce millions of pounds of fresh, high-quality lettuce annually for customers across the region. As part of Taylor Farms — North America's largest producer of fresh-cut salads and healthy fresh foods — we combine the agility of a dedicated CEA operation with the scale, resources, and customer reach of an industry leader.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Grower to join our team. The Grower will be responsible for the production and care of crops within our greenhouse facility, ensuring healthy plant growth and optimal yields. This position is vital to maintaining our commitment to quality, sustainability, and food safety.

The ideal candidate will have experience in greenhouse or controlled environment agriculture production, be detail-oriented, and ready to contribute to a team environment focused on continuous improvement and innovation.

Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Manage and monitor daily crop production activities across seeding, germination, transplant, and harvest in our continuous-production hydroponic system
  • Operate and maintain greenhouse production systems including recirculating hydroponic water systems, fertigation and nutrient dosing, supplemental lighting, climate controls (heating, cooling, ventilation, shade/energy screens, COâ‚‚), and irrigation
  • Monitor and adjust key water chemistry parameters (EC, pH, dissolved oxygen, etc.) and nutrient recipes to maintain target crop specifications
  • Conduct regular scouting to identify and address plant health issues, nutrient disorders, and pest or disease pressure; implement IPM protocols including biological controls
  • Maintain detailed records of crop growth, environmental setpoints, water and nutrient inputs, yield, and shrink in our production tracking systems
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards (SQF, FSMA Produce Safety Rule) and all SOPs governing greenhouse operations, sanitation, and worker hygiene
  • Partner with the Head Grower, Production Manager, and operations team to optimize yield, head weight, quality, and food safety outcomes
  • Support inventory management of seed, substrate, nutrients, crop protection products, and consumables

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in commercial greenhouse or controlled environment agriculture production; hydroponic lettuce or leafy greens experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of plant physiology, crop steering, and nutrient management in recirculating hydroponic systems
  • Understanding of IPM principles and pest/disease identification in a greenhouse setting
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and communicate issues with greenhouse control systems (e.g., Pirva, Hoogendoorn) and automated production equipment
  • Detail-oriented with strong observational, record-keeping, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, year-round production environment
  • Comfortable working in a warm, humid greenhouse environment with exposure to water, fertilizers, and crop protection products
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional weekends and on-call rotation to support continuous crop production

Work Environment

  • Large-scale commercial greenhouse with controlled climate systems and automated production lines
  • Consistently warm and humid conditions year-round; exposure to water, nutrient solutions, and approved crop protection
  • Standing, walking, and working in a large-scale facility with automated equipment & machinery

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Frequent walking and standing to check locations throughout the growing area
  • Visual acuity sufficient to scout crops and identify subtle plant health issues

Benefits

  • Full-time, stable employment in an essential food production industry
  • Opportunity to develop leadership skills in a fast paced, growing organization.
  • Team-focused, safety-first culture
  • Make an impact by helping deliver fresh, high-quality produce to customers nationwide
  • Health Insurance
  • 401k
  • Paid Time Off
