MLMIC Insurance Company (a Berkshire Hathaway Company) is based in New York state and has specialized in providing professional liability insurance for NY physicians since 1975. After operating independently and as a mutual insurance company for most of its existence, MLMIC was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway in the fall of 2018.
We continue to be the most significant writer of professional medical liability insurance in the State of New York. We provide insurance for physicians, NPs, PAs, dentists, and hospitals.

We are currently seeking candidates for a remote Director of Finance Position. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated professional who can work independently with a moderate level of supervision. We offer an excellent compensation program and a comprehensive benefits package.

Primary Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the Medical Malpractice Insurance Pool of New York State (MMIP) Finance department. Extensive interaction with other departments related to information gathering, adherence to Finance policies and enhancing company operations.
Insurance experience and statutory reporting experience is a must.
· Responsible for the quarterly statutory financial statements and member participation reports
· Responsible for the accurate reporting of the Pool’s invested assets and investment accounting, as well as oversees Investment Managers’ handling of invested assets.
· Oversees and coordinates the annual external audit for MMIP.
· Oversees banking functions for MMIP including cash operating requirements.
· Oversees the preparation and timely filing of MMIP tax returns, including the distribution of member Form K-1s on an annual basis.
Required Qualifications (Technical & Life Skills)
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting
· Ten years’ experience in accounting/finance operations
· Insurance-related experience, including preparation of an insurance annual statement.
· Thorough understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
· Solid planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong analytical skills coupled with great attention to details.
· Strong leadership skills.
· Ability to effectively research accounting issues and draw supportable conclusions.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment but also self-motivated.
· Knowledgeable in the use of financial software, spreadsheets, and word processing
Preferred Qualifications (Technical & Life Skills)
· CPA with public accounting experience
Salary range: $188,000 - $275,000
