Bus Monitor (2026-2027) Hazelwood School District Transportation - Florissant, Missouri Job Details Job ID: 5658437 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Re-Posted: Apr 22, 2026 5:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: To Be Determined Job Description 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR Hazelwood School District Bus Monitor The purpose of the Bus Monitor is to assist students while they are being transported to and from school; and to provide a consistent environment, discipline and guidance for the students while they are on the bus. Reports To: Director of Transportation Major Responsibilities: Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance. Monitor student behavior for the purpose of diffusing situations and/or preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers. Develop positive relationships with students, school staff, and parents. Be vigilant and alert to student activity while on the bus as well as at the bus stop. Report observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to the School Safety and Transportation departments. Report any actions taken by students to initiate a confrontation, disruption or disturbance. Communicate and remind students of bus safety requirements, school rules and provide general behavioral guidance to students while on the bus. Respond to and report emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns. Work as a team with the bus driver to create and achieve positive behavior standards on the bus. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Split shift availability necessary Good verbal communication skills Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with students, faculty and parents. Knowledge and understanding of children Problem solving skills Ability to properly analyze situations and adopt effective course(s) of action Possess maturity and ability to understand appropriate interactions with others Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job Period of Employment: The period of employment is the school term or nine and one-half (9.5) months annually.
