Title: School Bus Mechanic $25.00 to 35.00 an hour Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation, to ensure that safe transportation is provided for students and staff.
Essential Functions: - Inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining gasoline and diesel-powered buses and passenger vehicles to ensure safety and reliability.
- Key duties include performing preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake jobs), repairing engines and transmissions, diagnosing electrical systems, and maintaining accurate repair records.
- 1 3 years of experience and a CDL is preferred
- Knowledge of CDE vehicle requirements and regulations preferred. Eligible to get CDE certifications as needed by the district.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy-duty automotive repair, and computer diagnostics.
- Tools: Proficient in using specialized shop tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs), bending, crawling, and standing for long periods.
- Documentation: Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and wiring schematics. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Qualifications - Education: High School diploma or GED.
- Experience: Generally 1 3 years of automotive or heavy-duty diesel experience.
- Licensure: Valid Driver's License, with the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the first 6 months.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of all traffic laws, regulations, road signs and related information.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus and repair the bus
- Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
- Ability to learn and comprehend information from procedures manuals and other materials. Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required.
- Ability to physically move through the bus, center and classrooms.
- Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Certification/License:
- Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License.
- Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.
