The Associate Director role supports the Lynch Cancer Research Center (LCRC) in the School of Medicine. This position will be responsible for the development, management, and execution of new and existing programs and budgets to support faculty and learners located in both clinical and basic science departments in the Lynch Cancer Research Center. The position will partner with the faculty director of the Lynch Cancer Research Center to refine and implement the multi-phase, multi-year strategic plan. Coordinates with clinical and non-clinical leaders, and across schools and colleges. Represents the Center on business affairs to the institutional community. Develops and prepares budgets and financial reports for grants, general appropriations, endowments, and other funds. Provides input into non-technical portions of grant and contract proposal.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and facilitate preparation, implementation and reporting of large programmatic cancer center grant submissions such as NIH, CoBRE, and C06 grants. Manage LCRC internal grant opportunities in coordination with Sponsored Programs Administration and LCRC leadership. Manage cancer center small internal grant opportunities; connect and track learners with cancer research opportunities and implement various programs including faculty development. Oversees fiscal management of the center. Implements fiscal plans and policies and monitor outcomes. Assists with preparation and management of research and service grant application.
  • Partner with the faculty director of the Lynch Cancer Research Center to refine and implement the multi-phase, multi-year strategic plan of the LCRC. Creation, implementation, coordination with clinical chairs and SOM leaders, tracking, management and evaluation of new programs within each phase, including the clinician investigator program for research-intensive clinical faculty.
  • Responsible for tracking center activities and determining how this information will be communicated to various audiences. Track data related to the LCRC, working with the School of Medicine Office of Accreditation and Quality Improvement when necessary.
  • Represent the LCRC in discussions with CUSOM leaders, University Marketing and Communications (MarCom) and University Relations (UR) for philanthropy and marketing initiatives. Ensure that the partners in MarCom and UR have the information they need related to the evolving strategic plan and respective phases of the LCRC in support of advancing the vision and goals of the program.
  • Establish what the day-to-day activities of the LCRC will entail. This includes developing policies for faculty and learners (comprised of Residents/House Staff Physicians, Post-Doctoral Fellows, and Graduate Students.) Create a newsletter and track/maintain membership in the center. Provide the day-to-day oversight of office activities and support the Lynch Cancer Research Center (LCRC) and student workers. Prepare the LCRC Annual Report. Updates and maintains Lynch Cancer Research Center website. Coordinate faculty hiring related to the cancer center. Collaborate with CommonSpirit HR for clinical hires for the Lynch Cancer Research Center (LCRC). Manages all space and maintenance requirements in coordination with medical dean's office.
  • Plan and coordinate internal and external events. Oversee LCRC events including the LCRC Symposium, seminar series, etc., including event management and communications.
  • Supervise LCRC staff as they are hired.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience overseeing administrative operations required.
  • At least five years' experience in administrative and leadership roles.
  • Experience in basic science and/or clinical research management preferred.
  • Position in a medical school (or equivalent) related to research in the Health Sciences preferred.
  • Prefer oncology clinical trial experience to help growth/development of strong and successful clinical research infrastructure.
  • Project management experience, including experience launching a new program or center, helpful.
  • Experience with policy and procedure development preferred.
  • Experience with the management and implementation of large grant submissions a plus.
  • Financial management experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, leaders and staff at all levels, the ability to use good judgement in working independently and as part of a team, and showing initiative are all necessary attributes for this position.
  • Ability to anticipate required work and self-initiate projects that have periodic or cyclical deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of grants accounting practices and legal compliance requirements preferred.
